Reaching Out

One of the priviliges of our church is to reach out and support areas of mission beyond our own local concerns. You won't get much further than Afghanistan!

Recently we "adopted" four Methodist Chaplains serving in various capacities in Helmand Province. The object is to support them with our prayers(each chaplain has a dedicated Sunday), and a monthly letter or e-mail. Also, shoe boxes full of T-shirts, flip-flops and toiletries are sent for those who have been injured and are in hospital. There are also sweets in the boxes which are taken out to the forces working outside the camps. Our children in Discoverers also share this concern and send pictures and craft work.

We in return receive letters and e-mails which give us an insight as to how the chaplains live and work and feel in such a difficult situation.

They all express their thanks and appreciation for the various forms of contact. That alone makes any effort on our part extremely worthwhile.

May GOD's blessing rest upon them and those who are in their care.
