Upper Poppleton Parish Council
Chairman's Report – 2nd April 2007
The Parish Council has carried out its duties
efficiently and has always attempted to act in the interest of all the village.
During the year, Councillors Anne Hook and Liz
Reese resigned and Councillor Vivien Crabb joined us. I would like to record my thanks to all my
fellow councillors who give up their time to be of service to their village and
community.
There is to be an election in May when a new
Parish Council will be chosen. Prospective
candidates are sorely needed and will be welcomed.
I would like to mention some of the Parish Council’s
activities during the year
· The brick bus shelter on the green was
replaced with a new transparent shelter and now belongs to the City Council
· The maypole was painted with the
help of a grant from Yorventure
· Three Newsletters were produced and
distributed
· Forty-five planning applications were
dealt with
· The four village pumps were refurbished
· The introduction of yellow lines was
successfully fought
The Parish Council also
· Agreed to stand guarantor for a part
of a grant to refurbish All Saints Church Hall
· Is trying to improve the provision
of parking at the railway station.
· Is organising a disabled parking bay
in the car park near the White Horse Inn.
· Carried out a litter bin survey with
the City of York Council. Many of the
existing bins are to be replaced with more suitable ones
Finally, a thank you to our clerk, James Mackman,
whose help and guidance through the year have been invaluable.
