Upper Poppleton Parish Council

Chairman's Report - 11th April 2005

I would like to open my report by thanking my fellow councillors for their support over the past year. All of us give our time voluntarily, sometimes when it is not convenient, to help our village and community.

Upper Poppleton Parish Council has again attended to its duties in as positive a manner as possible, and has always tried to act in the wider interests of the village.

During the year we decided to try and obtain the status of becoming a "quality parish council", a process which is still ongoing.

Changes in the planning department indicate that many more decisions will be delegated to officers instead of the planning committee. Whether this will effect village development we shall see.

The Parish Council decided to support the Village Community Trust to enable them to employ a manager. This was a controversial decision and I think that the council made the correct choice.

I have mostly enjoyed my tenure as chairman and I would like to thank the Parish Clerk, James Mackman, for his help and guidance through the year
