Upper Poppleton Parish Council
Chairman's Report - 9th April 2001
This was millennium year. Things went resoundingly well. Everybody worked together, making my job go smoothly. We put together all matters on the agendas with good debate, to the satisfaction of all councillors
There was quiet a lot of vandalism with a seat being broken beyond repair, the library windows broken and the bus shelter was sprayed with paint and its light broken.
Greens and conservation area looking nice and tidy, with three new trees planted on the little green. The verges around the green were edged and tided up making the greens look very neat. A boundary fence was erected between the Collingwood and the car park.
A new seat was bought to replace the badly vandalised seat in Dikelands Lane. The damaged seat was repaired and put in Station Road to replace a seat that had rotted and was dangerous.
The footpath between Upper and Nether was resurfaced so that people could walk without getting wet and muddy.
A 7.5 tonne weight limit was put into place stopping the lorries cutting through the villages.
Councillor Smith handed in his resignation and Cllr. A D Scott-Coveney was elected to replace him.
I would like to thank our Clerk, James, who did an excellent job, with his e-mails and keeping our books in order.
I would like to thank my vice-chairman, Mrs Parker, for all the work she put into the year and all the other councillors for the hard work they put in through the year and making my job as chairman flow well.
